Do any of you have statues of Mary in your home or personal space? Does anyone have an altar specifically devoted to Mary?

Re: Statues of Mary
Wed, October 18, 2006 - 10:01 PMPhaedra, I am so blessed...I bought a house last year that has a little niche (did I spell that right? LOL) carved into the wall in hall way, it's the first thing you see when you walk in through the front door...it's was the perfect place to put a beautiful statue of the Virgin Mary. I ordered my statue from a book at our parish center because I needed the perfect statue to honor her and fit into the space! -

Wed, October 18, 2006 - 10:30 PMWow Valerie! I love it when things happen like that - niche carved into the wall and then you find the perfect statue of Mary that just fits right in! It's like that's what was meant to be there. -

Sat, October 21, 2006 - 11:12 AMEverything did work out perfectly for my statue and space for her :)
I have a small Virgin Mary statue (plastic) on my car dashboard...my mom sent it to me, but it kind of looks like this one:

I think this spring I am going to try to make a small grotto in my backyard, so I will need to find an outdoor statue of the Virgin Mary. So many of them look cheap (yes, I know the above linked statue looks cheap, but it was the closest I could find to the one in my car), and I don't want one that does not give proper honor, you know what I mean? Do you guys think an all white statue would look better than one that is painted??? I'm leaning toward that direction more and more. -

Sat, October 21, 2006 - 1:03 PMOmgosh!! I love discount catholic!!
I like the coloured ones best.. will she be shaded or out in the sunlight? If she's uncovered I would say go with the white!!
I hope you post photos for us Valerie.. I'd love to see!! -

Re: Statues of Mary
Sat, October 21, 2006 - 6:46 PMI am totally going to take a photo of my little hallway niche and statue and post it for you guys to see! That will help me get my rear in gear because my camera needs a new battery and I haven't gone to get one for over a month! I know, I suffer from laziness...but I live in a small town, and I have to go to radio shack to get this special battery because no other stores carry them. The problem for me is that radio shack closes at 5 and I work until 5-thirty...what about my lunch break??? Well, I walk my dog on my lunch break (he's the cutie in the picture I have up), he's a giant breed growing puppy and he benefits from a few shorter walks per day instead of one long one.
So anyway, I will make it a point to get a battery and show you my Virgin Mary statue. I sure hope you can find one for your desk, Dare. All I can say is my statue is wonderful, because I try to never walk by without thinking of Mary praying for me, or the Lord in her arms who died for me. It helps me to be more thankful. I am so ungrateful sometimes, and I get so consumed by my whole life that any little thing, like walking past my statue, that will remind me that I owe everything to someone else, is a very good thing.
I sure hope you guys are having a great weekend!

Re: Statues of Mary
Sat, December 30, 2006 - 9:03 PMOkay you guys, I FINALLY posted a picture of my Virgin Mary statue!!!
In the picture, you can also see the rosary that my Uncle Junior made for me, it's made out of the seeds of this plant that he grows, they're called "Job's Tears" and it's such a beautiful rosary!
God bless you all in the year to come!

Sat, December 30, 2006 - 9:05 PMone more thing...if you view the full size image (it's huge), you can see the rosary a little better...but you can also see the painting mistake on the left side of the niche...my daughter did it and was pretty upset, but I was so glad for the help, I left it to remember LOL :) -

Re: Statues of Mary
Wed, January 10, 2007 - 2:09 PMyep...Mary statues throughout the house!
i can't pick a favorite, but i am sentimental so the ones passed down to me from my grandmothers probably mean a wee bit more to me!
one of the most unique ones i have is a little statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe that my Padrino gave to me - it's made from the ash of Mt. Pinatubo (a volcano in the Philippines).
i'll try and remember to take some pics to post here!
